Snuggie-is it a pop culture?

O.K. so a few weekends ago, I was with friends enjoying the weekend and watching the tube when the infamous Snuggie infomerical took over the screen. As all of us had seen this maybe 100 times already, we couldn't stop talking about the blanket with sleeves. "They look crazy", or something like that as I replied. Another friend said "They look like creeps" and when they showed the family at the ball game, someone else shouted "What are they in a cult...I could never wear that in public." And on and on we went with the wisecracks as within an hour they showed the Snuggie about 10 more times!

Well low and behold, Snuggie is making a mark on pop culture all over the internet from yahoo to youtube. Its captured a lot of folks attention with 4 million sold.....wow do the math at $19.95. So reading these articles made me realize that although I currently reside in LA, I lived in Chicago for a very long time and know how brutally cold it gets in those winter months. I said to myself maybe Snuggie is not such a bad idea after all and I would imagine that a lot of other people would agree. Or would they....what do you think?

The Return of Lite-Brite as an Electronic Beat Box- Meet Tenori-On

When I was reading the hot new gadgets listed in Forbes, I ran across the Tenori-On........and this brought back flashbacks of one of my favorite childhood toys. I remember sitting in my room totally in the dark being entertained for hours humped over my Lite-Brite and plugging in those colored pegs to create my masterpiece designs.

So the Tenori-On, designed and created by Toshio Iwai and Yu Nishibori, is the hot sampling/sequencing instrument on the market. It’s a sixteen by sixteen grid of LED switches, any of which can be activated in a number of ways to create unique musical sounds. The LED switches are held within a magnesium frame, which has two built-in speakers located on the top of frame, as well as a dial and buttons that control the type of sound and beats per minute produced. There is also an LCD screen on the bottom edge of the frame. Using the connection function, it is possible to play a synchronized session, or to send and receive songs between two of the devices.

I believe this gadget came out in late 2008 and I would love to hear how this electronic musical instrument measures up….especially compared to my Lite-Brite days.

Using cassette tapes for fashion and recycling!

The other day I was cleaning and ran across my old cassette tapes..... and yes I still have my cassette tapes! When I got on my computer, I started googling cassette tapes and I stumbled upon this video on how to make purses out of cassette tapes. Well, being an avid fan of both music, fashion, and recycling, I watched this video in its entirety and was very intrigued by this which is why I am blogging about it. What a great idea for those of you who are thinking of getting rid of your tapes or simply don't know what to do with that big bag of tapes you've collected over the years that's just sitting in the back of your closet somewhere probably collecting dust. As for my stash, well I doubt right now if I will make them into purses but if I ever need an idea, I will know what to do with them. For more info on this video go to boxyqueens.com

Also make sure to check out chezlin.com to make coin purses out of cassette tapes.

Napoleon Dynamite- what a funny movie!

Deb: What are you drawing?
Napoleon Dynamite: A liger.
Deb: What's a liger?
Napoleon Dynamite: It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.

O.K. so I have a confession to make. I know this movie came out in 2004 but I saw Napoleon Dynamite for the very first time about a month or two ago. Back in 2004 I kept seeing the "Vote for Pedro" tshirts and for the LIFE of me, I couldn't figure out what it meant and for some reason I never asked. So all these years passed by and like anyone else would, I forgot about that tshirt.....until recently. When I finally saw the movie and the Pedro character was introduced, low and behold, the lightbulb went off.
So what were your favorite lines or scenes from the movie?
